#1 My kids need more time to study - Parents take note

Image
#1 Fallacy Pulling your kids out of martial  arts will give them  more time  to focus on study and school? As well  intentioned parents maybe  this  is the biggest single mistake any parent could make without a doubt! It's well documented  the benefits of good exercise...martial arts takes that exercise to another level developing habits for  life such as Focus, Discipline  and the "will" to succeed! Yes  they need to "harden" up. Do you not think  your child  needs these attributes  to succeed academically? After 41 years of teaching I have zero doubt the the best students  in martial arts all became great students  in study..its No coincidence A good martial arts school is part of your child's  study  success formula www.MartialArtsForLife.com.au

Whats my motivation?

Image
My motivation? If you are motivated solely by money you are in the wrong business! I worked 4 jobs for 12 years to ensure my family are ok and I can enjoy my martial arts guilt free and ensure there is never any money pressures at the school. I never wanted to look at students as $$$$$ For the first 6 years of me running my own school I did not see a single cent..more often than not I paid the rent out of my own pocket and even got a loan on behalf of my instructor...I did all that I could for him as a loyal student. I never want or expect that for my students and have always offered to pay. Yes I do want more students and that's not because I want more money but simply because after 34 years I love & believe in what I do! I had someone say to me the other day they have made a lot of blackbelts for me....wow Firstly you got paid and getting a black belt is all about the student not me, am I wrong? Money is important but not more important than people .. Not more importan...

Valuing Older people

Image
" I raised 4 kids in one room.   Today My children now have 4 houses but do not have a room for me "                                Translated the message is clear. ..more respect for our elders is needed. Have times changed the value of elders , the value of family? It's why I love the martial arts as Respect & Loyalty to family are not only taught but promoted first and foremost. I just dont' see schools teaching such values and as such the role martial arts schools play in everyday loves is becoming more &  more important

Don't let fear stand in the way of a great result

Image
I don't  want to watch matches where fighters are so afraid to lose they avoid the fight or simply hold and stall with no plan or motivation to take the fight to them. I love it when MMA fighters or when two BJJ competitors with the potential and ability to put on a hell of a show deliver and really do amazing stuff..everyone congratulations the loser as much as the winner!  So if you are going to compete then dam well go for it!  Losses happen like it or not so let people see what you can do. It's an old cliche  but it's so true  "fortune favours the brave"....  You will create more chances and you will win the crowd and feel so much better knowing YOU gave it your all. I teach my students to believe in themselves and conquer  their fears...in every fight and in every day of their lives. There is nothing worse than choking with fear and not letting fly with your abilities; deciding your destiny and the result is so much better t...

Everyone wants to beat the Champion

For every champion there is someone training to dethrone you.... I as many am still in shock Rousey lost but this girl did not just appear out of no where!  I am still a Rousey fan and am sure she will soon be preparing to do what was done to her, the challenge of competitive sport is beautiful and will bring out the very best for us to marvel and enjoy. Check out the video and we can all only image the work that went into getting into the cage let alone winning click on the link https://youtu.be/Gap-rM4CbLc

Sick Extremists

Image
Everyone at UFC193 stood up for a minute silence in support of Paris. ...sick extremists do not represent any religion or people, they have no place in our society and will never win.

Ronda Rousey

Image
I love the competitive sport.  of MMA... .. I may not like the result always though but thats as the say is the challenge of this and any sport. One thing for certain the nasty side of people comes out the moment someone is beat or down. Disappointing aspect of what sadly has become the norm of modern life, for me the disgraceful comments written by so many and the so called funny Memes are a reflection of the lack of values and certainly for mine mean one thing ;    No Class!

Living legends recommend KMA

Image
My 33rd year of teaching and its wonderful that not only our students love KMA but the very many living legends from across the globe are more than happy to visit and endorse all that we do and offer.... Liverpool City's No1 Martial Arts School So many have visited KMA and they all loved it! www.MartialArtsForLife.com.au

Who is important to you?

I don't have time ?

Image
This would have to be the biggest excuse in world...actually it's more than an excuse,it's a lie! What is eating your time? Every minute you waste is a minute you never get back..so you are either a master of your time or a time waster. Last but not least you do not have to go 100 km's an hour or jam pack your day to make the most of it, in fact I do the opposite. " Master Fari why do you walk so slow" my young student stated...why do I walk so slow? It is because I do not want to hurry and miss anything! Control your time, make time...avoid the phrase "I don't have time" Those that don't have time will soon realise THEY don't have time to accomplish everything they choose to accomplish in life.  www.MartialArtsForLife.com.au

Old School...and proud of it!

Image
With the emergence of MMA  I find it quite amusing when so many people tell me old school is no more..really? Firstly our KMA schools are proudly "old School"  and yes we are also MMA! To me "Old School" is not being about a down block or a technique but rather more about "old school Values". In a microwave age where you press the button and in 20 seconds its ready we are in serious need of old school values and for many some serious need of not only respecting the old but placing a value to them. Loyalty & Respect can and should still be everyday virtues and at the same time have the ability to "harden up". My goal as a teacher,as a mentor is to guide all my students to toughen them up mentally and physically  with a"no give up attitude". But how do you make sure you don't get the wrong attitude developing? This is where old school values come in...visit our KMA headquarters you will find some very tough (and they look ...

Just another excuse?

Image
Avoid the  phrase  I don't have time... "will help you realise you don't have time needed for just about everything you choose to accomplish in life" 2012 is My 30th year of teaching and you can only imagine the excuses I have heard over this amazing journey! I don't have time has to be up there and YES it is just another excuse. If there is a will there is always a way...if you did not have time to stop for fuel what would happen to you car? But that's different I hear you say? Your body is your car, your vehicle for life and so many don't have time, what is scary I have seen many have a major health scare and all of a sudden they find time to change their lifestyle habits. They are the lucky ones; for some it's just too late.....moral of the story? Stop making excuses and make positive life changes when in good health to maintain and improve it...let it be YOU to decide your lifestyle choices not your unfortunate circumstances!

What is success?

Image
Today I am celebrating my 30th year of martial arts ( that's from the time I got serious and started teaching). I can tell you it's not about the car you drive or the size of or house, not even the money you make! It's how you live and the kind of people you have around you....and to top it all off working a job that does not feel like a job to me is priceless. Helping people achieve their dreams while I live mine...each and everyday. Thankyou all sincerely....check out this clip and you will understand what I am feeling today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8Bi-e-QAsA                                                                 Martial Arts For Life

Real success is longevity

Image
Wow it's been  a while a while since my last blog...with so much facebook it's been neglected, my apologies. Whitney Houston passed away this week and truly a wasted talent. I went to a Rod Stewart concert the other night and he is well into his 60's. I could not help but marvel at the sell out crowd and at how much fun he was having, he was in great shape and shared his stage appearance with his family. Still rocking and still enjoying life! In martial arts I have some great role models....Ernie Reyes Snr in his 70's and still in amazing shape, check out Joon Rhee  doing a workout who is into his 80's and it's WOW. Many people ask me about success and I have to say real success is long lasting and as I am about to turn 55 I am so grateful that I can enjoy each and everyday with some fantastic people in an industry I love so much...the martial arts. Wishing you longevity Martial Arts For Life

Life is as good as you make it

Image
I had an absolutely great weekend! Yes I was pleased that Corey "Major" Nelson won his 10th MMA bout. Although I am so very happy for Corey's well deserved result it is about much much more. We had a great support team that included Shabe Kafo,Grant Jones, our official strapper was even there Ms Kathryn. How did we celebrate?  well it was in the early hours of the morning we ended up sitting in a great cafe called " Chappelli's" shared a great meal and simply chatted about people and about KMA. It was unusual how we ended up on this line of praising and we celebrated not just the win but how we are all surrounded by great people and training to win in the game of life. Our lives could have turned out so differently without the martial arts, but hey here we are! Life is more than good, its great simply because we made the right choices!

Train to Never Quit!

Image
I had a chance to meet up with Master Reyes,he certainly is a shining example of "training to never quit". So why bother going to 7th dan? As well as challenging myself I have to sincerely say its all about my students. There is nothing I ask of them that I would not do myself and that includes training and working towards my next level. Is it about the belt? Certainly not, its about sharpening the sword, it's about constant and never ending improvement, it's about growth and inspiration which quite frankly cannot be shown by simply wearing a belt. Last but not least its about the training, I aim for my students and my industry peers to see and know I am active and always working.Winning respect and self respect is everything to me. Its almost 30 years in the making so its something that did not happen over night.....infact as I reflect I am amazed at all the things I have been through and how quickly it has gone. Now it's time to enjoy th...

Life is good

Image
Recently there have been deaths fairly close to our family,I have seen people become victims of fraud to the tune of $500,000 and I have been through a tax audit....but life is good. Fact is there is no life without problems but as they say it's all about how you handle them! Many would place money before their health ,then at the moment when death is near then they would readily sacrifice all their wealth and belongings in exchange for life. The moral of the story.....value your life and health when you have it and do all to protect and maintain it.When in the best of health you have the freedom of choice, sadly it's not appreciated by many until their choices are taken away from them. Money ,houses and cars can all be replaced....value life and remember everyday above ground is a great day. Life is good,it's very good.

It's all about respect

Image
"No one cares how much you know , they want to know how much you care" No truer words have been spoken! The martial arts industry is filled with some great people, its also filled with some arrogance as a result of their level of black belt or their fighting record.Who cares? I don't care if you can kick my butt or if you have never had a fight at all, everyone deserves respect. www.MartialArtsForLife.com.au Why would you want to spend time with or worse still spend money on such people! Filling your life with the right kind of people is essential, for me I am very protective to ensure I have a peaceful and stress free life. If They don't make the grade its simple just ignore and isolate those that want to drain your energy like blood sucking vampires. This is my first line of self defence, saying "No" to those vampires. Love life, love martial arts!

Recent fathers day

Image
Late blog but it is still on my mind. "master Fari I never really had a dad and I look to you as my father figure" "master Fari I just wanted to say what an inspiration you are to many young men on this fathers day" These were just some of so many comments,I have not been perfect but as I grow older my responsibilities as a teacher become more and more important. It is not something I take lightly and its something I am aware each of in everything I do.
