Old School...and proud of it!

Image
With the emergence of MMA  I find it quite amusing when so many people tell me old school is no more..really? Firstly our KMA schools are proudly "old School"  and yes we are also MMA! To me "Old School" is not being about a down block or a technique but rather more about "old school Values". In a microwave age where you press the button and in 20 seconds its ready we are in serious need of old school values and for many some serious need of not only respecting the old but placing a value to them. Loyalty & Respect can and should still be everyday virtues and at the same time have the ability to "harden up". My goal as a teacher,as a mentor is to guide all my students to toughen them up mentally and physically  with a"no give up attitude". But how do you make sure you don't get the wrong attitude developing? This is where old school values come in...visit our KMA headquarters you will find some very tough (and they look

Just another excuse?

Avoid the  phrase  I don't have time... "will help you realise you don't have time needed for just about everything you choose to accomplish in life" 2012 is My 30th year of teaching and you can only imagine the excuses I have heard over this amazing journey! I don't have time has to be up there and YES it is just another excuse. If there is a will there is always a way...if you did not have time to stop for fuel what would happen to you car? But that's different I hear you say? Your body is your car, your vehicle for life and so many don't have time, what is scary I have seen many have a major health scare and all of a sudden they find time to change their lifestyle habits. They are the lucky ones; for some it's just too late.....moral of the story? Stop making excuses and make positive life changes when in good health to maintain and improve it...let it be YOU to decide your lifestyle choices not your unfortunate circumstances!

What is success?

Today I am celebrating my 30th year of martial arts ( that's from the time I got serious and started teaching). I can tell you it's not about the car you drive or the size of or house, not even the money you make! It's how you live and the kind of people you have around you....and to top it all off working a job that does not feel like a job to me is priceless. Helping people achieve their dreams while I live mine...each and everyday. Thankyou all sincerely....check out this clip and you will understand what I am feeling today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8Bi-e-QAsA                                                                 Martial Arts For Life

Real success is longevity

Wow it's been  a while a while since my last blog...with so much facebook it's been neglected, my apologies. Whitney Houston passed away this week and truly a wasted talent. I went to a Rod Stewart concert the other night and he is well into his 60's. I could not help but marvel at the sell out crowd and at how much fun he was having, he was in great shape and shared his stage appearance with his family. Still rocking and still enjoying life! In martial arts I have some great role models....Ernie Reyes Snr in his 70's and still in amazing shape, check out Joon Rhee  doing a workout who is into his 80's and it's WOW. Many people ask me about success and I have to say real success is long lasting and as I am about to turn 55 I am so grateful that I can enjoy each and everyday with some fantastic people in an industry I love so much...the martial arts. Wishing you longevity Martial Arts For Life
